Whenever you conduct business, it is important to have a degree of business ethic. A lot can go wrong and will go wrong when you work for a business or run one of your own, so ensuring that you do show a high degree of ethic and not only keep you out of a lot of trouble, but get you out of trouble if it is inevitable. Today, I’d like to share some simple points to allow you to operate a business ethically.

First, and the probably goes without saying, never lie. Frown on even little white lies. For some reason, the little white lies seem to cause the most damage. Why this is, is because of the fact that people really do judge you upon your word being your bond.

Now, if you are likely to indulge in a little white lie here or there, then it forces people to think that if you are willing to say the small lie, then you’ll be untruthful in bigger areas as well.

So I would recommend not commenting at all if you are stuck for an answer. This also leads me to my next point.

In business, and in life, there is a grand saying. Everyone may think you are a fool, but the moment you open your mouth, they now know that you are a fool. It is important to communicate, but avoid speaking to hear your voice.

I know several very bright business people who shoot themselves in the foot on this point. Remember it’s easier to talk someone out of a sale then it is to talk someone into a sale.

There is one case and point that is important to mention regarding the point above. If you omit the truth by not saying anything, when you should, then you have re-entered the realm of the lie again. I’ve seen tremendous damage done by individuals in business by omitting truth that looks bad on them or their situation. As a matter of fact, many of us do this in many business deals.

This brings me to my final point on business ethic. Tell the truth, even if the truth looks bad on you. Your business partners will look favorably on you if you are willing to tell them that you made a mistake, or are not the right person or etc.

I once went for an interview for a job and eventually I told the company interviewing me that I was the wrong choice for the position. In the end, I did get the position, probably over better qualified individuals because they knew the limits of my skills. They saw I was willing to grow into the position and finally, I showed business ethic in a place that startled them.

My final words to you on this topic would be to allow yourself to go to bed each night, feeling like you did the very best job you could have, so you can wake up in the morning ready to do good business once again.

I love to write on many different topics that may be of interest to you. I also like to work at my peak potential. Recently I was introduced the topic of what is an antioxidant and why is it important in your life.
